SmokeScreen Flips and Events

SmokeScreen Flips and Events

Couple a snaps from my recent events + a dope flip I did for Smokescreen. Catch there show on Saturday or catch the album when they drop it.

Today I was the the DJ for the opening act @ Edgewater Live. It was a good time despite the grey skies. Shout out to @wolfridernaj and the #LolCle crew. #DJNuERA #DoingDJStuff
I had a blast djing at Take 5 Jazz Lounge. The band (@OfficialJpennelope) was amazing, the food (Shrimp and grits) was amazing.
I'm thankful for every opportunity I've been given as a professional DJ. Sometimes I have the chance to be apart of some very special events. Last night I played music for @sneakersmcgee (Brendan Whitt) during the staged reading of his new book "A summer in Harlem" it was a great experience.

Why Hiphop is the greatest genre

Why Hiphop is the greatest genre

I only have one reason why I believe Hiphop is the greatest genre of music.

To my knowledge Hiphop is the only genre of music that consistently introduces its listeners to other genres of music and artist.

I'm a DJ so trust me I can post examples for days but I don't really feel like doing that lol. Instead I encourage you to take a look a your favorite songs new or old and see what they sampled via http://www.whosampled.com

As a matter of fact I will drop one gem on y'all from that new Jay Z Album 4:44

Selector Battle Recap [ Major Glory ]

Selector Battle Recap [ Major Glory ]

Congratulations DJ Reg P enjoy that $150 💰💰 cash money prize! Enjoy that title of Supreme Selector while your djing Lyrical Rhythms at the end of the month! #SelectorDJBattle Witness the shift in culture as DJ's step into the public arena and showcase there skill.

Real Rap, Culture, and my guy.

As I grow as DJ and meet new people I'm starting to see that everyones idea of what a DJ is isn't the same. I believe that all DJ's should have the ability to showcase. It's important to put back into the culture we all benefit from when we call ourselves DJ's. Its about doing what you do best and showcasing your skills for the world. I think a lot of DJ's are apprehensive about battling because of the stigma attached with losing. Its not 1995 anymore lol it doesn't matter if you win or lose. Its about being authentic. If you call yourself a DJ you should have no problem showcasing after all you do it overnight you have a gig. Just condense your 5 hr set into 5 minutes. Just my opinion though.

On another note my guy WSWDS dropped a nice little quick mix while we kicking it at his crib yesterday. I was like bro you need to quit playing and post that shit. Your welcome world. Enjoy The Pre Heat!

I had the opportunity to check out my guy starkks and the new studio. He interviewed me for his new podcast the cancelled show. It was great to take break from all the practice I've been doing in preparation for the final regional DMC battle in Pittsburgh and just chop it about music. Friday the 19th I'll be going to Pittsburg to represent Cleveland in the world's largest, longest running most reputable DJ competition. I can't wait!

Big Stage Bright Lights

Big Stage Bright Lights

I love the atmosphere in Chicago. The whole DJ scene is dope. I can't wait to go back. My brother aka  @Neppurrr on IG got some nice photos while we traversed the city. I'm lucky to have such a talented sibling. It's ok to be jealous....

The Platform and a little advice

The Platform and a little advice

I had the opportunity to participate as a judge during at The Platform Concert. They had a lot of great prizes for the artist. I'm glad I could be apart of such a great event. Props to all the artist that put themselves out there and join the competition. It's not an easy thing to take a loss. It's not an easy thing to put your pride on the line and allow your art to be judged. Artist keep grinding, stay connected and build your brand because in the end it's just business.

This is my second time playing at this event and I have to say its always fun not just to get feed back on my material but to hear other producers and what they are working on. This tape includes beats from both my sets at the Beat Freak event. Enjoy the tape! Email any inquires to DJNuERA216@Gmail.Com

Not even a podcast

Not even a podcast

There's a lot I could say about my guy J Oates and Not Even A Podcast but what I really suggest is that you just listen to the podcast. Lots of interesting, meaningful convo about a varierty of subjects.

Not even a podcast is about bridging those gaps between our generation, by allowing conversation to expose the character of our dope creatives. Also to just have a good time, and some good conversation around the definition of our culture.

Talking about practice

Talking about practice

I love being a DJ but I'm also competitive I want to be the best. Not better than the next man just better than I was yesterday lol if that makes any sense at all. My guy Royel Urban came to the lab last night to go over his set for a show we're doing this weekend. Then I played a few beats I've been working on and got a little scratch session in while we were talking about work flow.
